CBG As A Treatment For Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a kind of degenerative optic neuropathy characterized by retinal ganglion cell (RGC) loss and visual field defects. Studies have shown that CBG is showing promise as a treatment for glaucoma. Endocannabinoid receptors are found throughout our bodies and are prevalent in our eye structures. Interestingly, CBG is believed to be particularly effective in treating glaucoma because it is a powerful vasodilator (dilates blood vessels) which reduces eye pressure and has neuroprotective properties. Neuroprotection in glaucoma is defined as any intervention, independent of IOP reduction, that can prevent RGC loss.
In addition to glaucoma, CBG is showing great therapeutic potential with using it to treat a wide range of ailments, from bacterial infections to cancer. One study showed that CBG was reported to reduce cell proliferation in several cancer cell lines. In addition, CBG has been shown to produce antibacterial activity against MRSA and other drug resistant bacteria.
If you are considering using cannabinoids to treat glaucoma symptoms, or if you believe you are suffering with glaucoma, please consult with your physician to discuss possible interactions with medications.
